The cooler and better side of Magnolia

By: Kathryna de Bustos

Following a newly-opened shopping establishment along Aurora Boulevard, there is something beyond these doors – the all new Magnolia Flavor House.

There have been numerous attempts at creating the authentic ice cream parlor so far and it is noticeable that these stores would be of foreign origin and there hasn’t been a genuine all Filipino ice cream parlor since the last Magnolia ice cream parlor located at the then Quezon City-based Magnolia plant during the ‘90s.

Nestle then took over the Magnolia brand and it has been on a hiatus not until the brand was revived in 2004. With the support of a third party partner, San Miguel, The Perfect Cone was built behind the SM Mall of Asia.

The Magnolia brand started way back in 1925 and used to be the bread winner of all of the San Miguel products, but today, the multi-billion ice cream business is ruled by Unilever’s Selecta brand, Nestle, and Magnolia respectively.

Magnolia is making its official comeback through the opening of its new ice cream parlor called the Magnolia Flavor House located in the al fresco backyard of the newly-opened Robinsons Magnolia located at the former location of the Magnolia factory along Cor. Hemady Street, Aurora Boulevard during the ‘90s.

Being one of the pioneer brands of frozen treats in the country, introducing unique concoctions like ‘Ernie and Bert’ and ‘Choo-Choo Train’ the Magnolia brand remains true to its word: “Only the best will do.”
